Stranded in Vellore
Rohit* and his family from West Bengal are stranded in Vellore. Rohit has a rare type of skin cancer. He has been a patient at CMC for over a decade. His health is improving after surgery and regular chemotherapy. His doctors gave him the good news that he could go back home. He packed their bags, eagerly looking forward to the long trip home. But on 24th March the lockdown was declared and the train was cancelled. Like millions around the country, Rohit and his family are stranded far away from home.
CMC helps out
CMC has rallied around to help families like Rohit’s. They are living in our low cost Chatram (Shelter), with other patients.
“Chatram has become a home for us,” Rohit says gratefully “I don’t have to worry about where to stay or the next meal.”
Chatram Manna Meals scheme
The Chatram Manna Meals scheme normally provides one free meal a day for patients living in the Chatram. During the crisis it has been extended to help many other stranded patients who are struggling for food. Since the lockdown, it has provided over three thousand meals free of cost – thanks to generous donors like you! But this is not enough.
Every day we hear of more people still stranded in Vellore. Many have no money, no place to stay and are struggling for their next meal. Your contribution can help a family in these difficult COVID times.
Even when we are physically keeping our distance,
we can bridge the gap for those in need.
