It’s time for the annual Summer Camp for 1,300 children in Jawadhi hills. Here’s how you can join in…
Dear Friends,
CMC’s Department of Community Health runs 50 ‘Evening Study Centers’ in Jawadhi hills. 1,300 children are enrolled and each centre has a volunteer teacher. They help the children for 2 hours every evening, focusing on reading, writing, homework and more. On Saturdays, they play games and work together in community service by planting kitchen gardens or trees, cleaning their village etc. Each centre is supervised by teams from CMC and Don Bosco Tribal Development Society in Jawadhi Hills.
The children, ages 6-14 years, eagerly look forward to the week-long annual Summer Camps held in May. The camps are carefully planned to include new skills, knowledge and cultural activities like traditional dances or martial arts. The children enjoy nature walks, archery and sports, art and craft using local materials. They learn about child rights and forest rights. And of course, there is a component on health, nutrition and hygiene, which goes along with an annual ‘health check-up’. The kids have lunch and snacks in the camps. We are grateful to ‘Friends of Vellore’ for supporting the Summer Camp expenses every year. We invite YOU to be a part of the fun and action too. Contribute ₹10,000 and support FIVE young volunteer teachers. Give our children the Gift of Education!
