On International Women’s day, we pay tribute to our inspiring founder Dr. Ida Scudder. She dedicated her life to the women and children of South India. She broke stereotypes, graduating in the first batch of women doctors at Cornell, USA. When a medical school for Indian women seemed next to impossible, she overcame tremendous challenges and inspired young women (and later men) to serve with excellence and dedication.
In 1922, Dr. Ida championed ‘Dollar Day’ asking one million people to give one dollar each to build the Women’s Medical College at Vellore. Thousands of housewives, students and ordinary people responded to her call, raising more than half-a-million dollars!
Our modern version of ‘Dollar Day’ is a 60-day online campaign for Person to Person (PTP). Already 125 generous friends have raised ₹8.3 lakhs for poor patients at CMC. In addition, the GiveIndia portal matches around 10% of all donations until 30th March! We have 23 days left and YOU can help us reach our target of ₹30 lakhs.
