Meet Gopal (name changed), a 45-year-old patient from West Bengal who is undergoing cancer treatment at CMC Vellore:
“I am fighting a long battle with illness. My family lives modestly—my father was a milkman and my mother a homemaker. As the eldest of six children, I studied only up to 4th standard and began work in a sweet shop to support my family. Two years ago, cancer forced me to stop working, and start treatment. To manage my treatment, hospital stays, food, and travel, we have sold our gold, borrowed from our community and pledged our land.
With nowhere else to turn, we came to CMC Vellore. We stay at Chatram (CMC’s affordable accommodation) and my wife works tirelessly as a sweeper—to manage the continuing costs.
Amidst all this, one blessing we are truly grateful for is the Manna Meals. After each day of radiation, I look forward to my first meal.
It may seem like a small gesture, but for me, it is life-sustaining. It gives strength not just to my body, but to my spirit.”
Last year, over 50,000 Manna Meals were served to our patient families, around 110 meals per day. The cost of one meal is ₹40 and for one year this adds up to ₹20 lakh. Make a gift of ₹12,000 to feed FIVE families like Gopal’s for one month – your generosity can nourish a family-in-need today.
