125 years ago, our founder Dr. Ida Scudder set up her first one-bed clinic. Even as the hospital grew, she looked for ways to reach patients who could not come to be treated and so she set up road side clinics in such areas. Today this outreach is integral to the ethos of CMC – continues into 2025 and will be central to CMC’s work in the future as well.
To commemorate this significant milestone, various departments at CMC Vellore are organizing complimentary health screenings and educational programs in both rural and urban areas surrounding the Vellore region throughout the year. In March, CMC’s Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism started free health screenings and educational activities. Four health camps are planned to screen and detect diabetes-related complications individuals in rural and urban Vellore.

The Diabetic health camps aim to
- promote the primary prevention of diabetes mellitus and obesity
- teach self-footcare to detect early numb feet at home
- no-cost consultations for other endocrine-related conditions
- to provide customised footwear to patients with diabetes and high-risk foot of developing lower limb foot ulcer as a preventive measure
The most recent camp was conducted on 15 March at RUHSA. More than 130 people from the rural community were screened for diabetes and given recommendations. Similar camps are also planned at Low Cost Effective Care Centre (LCECU) and Community of Health and Development (CHAD)

We invite you to celebrate this historic milestone with us as we continue to reach out to patients through these health camps. Each camp is estimated to cost ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 and will cover medication for the patients during the camp. Donate and help make an impact for the rural community through these outreach camps.
