47-year-old Dhruv* had terrible pain in his lower stomach. His doctor told him to look for a bigger hospital. He was from Tripura, far away in North East India, but his manager advised him to go CMC, 3,000 km away from home. Hoping to return soon, Dhruv made his way to Vellore.
The Diagnosis
After many tests he was told he had cancer.
“Walking towards the Radiation Therapy department, I suddenly felt weak in my knees and I stopped right there and began to weep, I was not prepared for this. How can my life end so soon!”
Dhruv recalled
His wife came to be with him throughout the treatment. The radiotherapy was painful and he was in CMC for more than six months. It was a depressing time for him.
While at CMC he used to see little children in the waiting area, some of them hardly a year old. He learnt that they had cancer too and were there for radiotherapy. He felt pain in his heart this time – for the little ones. “They have just begun to live and now have this horrible disease.” He said almost in tears.
New lease of life!
Five years later, and today Dhruv is a cancer survivor! He just needs to come for a checkup once in a year. His desire is to help other patients with their treatment. He has asked his friends and relatives to donate towards the CAN HELP fund which pays for radiotherapy for those who can’t afford it.
Together we can make a difference
You too CAN HELP cancer patients just like Dhruv! We want to raise funds for patients who have cancer but can’t afford treatment. Can you spread the word wider?
