Beat the Heat this Summer

Summer is here and the heat is on! Heat Stroke or Sun Stroke is an illness caused by severe heat. In a hospital setting, a heat stroke is considered to be an emergency. It can cause irreversible brain damage or even death. With rising temperatures, it is important to implement safe practices every day to avoid a heat stroke. Here are some pointers –

Stay hydrated – Drink water/buttermilk/juices regularly in the day
Wear light coloured and loose cotton clothes
Stay indoors in the afternoons
Do not sit in parked vehicles in the sun
Have cool baths to lower temperature

People are at risk of heat stroke when the temperature is above 40°C. Early diagnosis and the right management of a heat stroke victim can help save a life! Act immediately when someone is constantly tired, sweats profusely, feels dizzy, has hot & dry skin and is in a state of confusion. Their body temperature is high and it is vital to bring it down. Here are some ways to cool the person’s body temperature.

Remove tight clothing
Fan the person while spraying cold water
Place ice packs or cool wet towels on the neck and under armpits
Cover the person with cool damp sheets
If the symptoms persist, get medical help immediately

With these simple steps, you can protect yourself and your family from heat stroke this summer.
