It is a privilege to announce the Dedication programme for ASHA-USAID grants to CMC Vellore. Since 1982, CMC Vellore has been partnering with USAID under its American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA). Nearly 30 ASHA grants to CMC have supported the setting up of advanced diagnostics, simulation labs, integrated support systems, buildings and more. Our partners Vellore CMC Foundation, USA has been instrumental in nurturing this relationship over the years.
In 2018 & 2019, the grants focused on themes close to the heart of our founder, Dr. Ida Scudder – improving maternal and neonatal health. The 2018 grant was awarded to the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Neonatology for life-saving equipment and simulation labs for training. In 2019, the College of Nursing and Department of Anesthesiology were awarded an ASHA grant for setting up Advanced Simulation Centres for excellence in Nursing and Multi-Disciplinary Team training.
Despite delays due to the pandemic, all four teams have purchased and installed the new equipment in the Labour room, Neonatal ICU and College of Nursing. Doctors, nurses and medical teams are training in the Advanced Simulation labs to improve standards of care for our sick patients. Training and research have been greatly enhanced. The ASHA Grants have been a catalyst for change, and we look forward to a continued partnership for good.
