Jaya (name changed) from a village in Vellore district, is a hardworking woman full of hopes and dreams for the future. Her life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with cancer, necessitating urgent hospitalization at CMC. Amidst the uncertainty and overwhelming challenges of cancer treatment, Jaya discovered a source of comfort in the compassionate care of the hospital staff. Their kindness became Jaya’s guiding light through her difficult journey. During Jaya’s hospital stay, her family supported her unwaveringly. But the long hours at the hospital were tough, especially for her elderly mother, who struggled to afford meals while staying by Jaya’s side.
Our nurses suggested that Jaya and her mother would benefit from the Manna Mid-day Meal scheme which would provide them with nutritious food. The hot meal each day eased Jaya’s worries and allowed her to focus on getting better.
The Mid-Day Meal Scheme was launched in 1998 by CMC Alumni with the goal of providing healthy meals to underprivileged patients. This initiative has expanded thanks to the support of generous friends and today it is managed by the Missions and Public Relations Offices. Everyday, around 110 meals are provided through the Vellore Good Samaritan Canteen. The average cost per meal token is ₹40 and last year, over free 40,000 meals were prepared for our patient families!
Today, Jaya continues her fight against cancer. Her story shows how your donation to the Manna Mid-day Meal scheme can support a poor and struggling family. Your gift of ₹15,000 will provide daily one free meal for one person for one year. Will you join us in making a difference?
