When we invest in women and girls, we are investing in the people who invest in everyone else
– Melinda Gates
On March 8th International Women’s Day #IWD2024, we honour the generations of women who are an integral part of the CMC story
- Pioneering leaders like Dr. Ida Scudder, our founder and Dr. Hilda Lazarus our first Indian Director, Ms. Aleyamma Kuruvilla, our first Indian Dean of Nursing, who trained women doctors, nurses and healthcare workers.
- Women who overcame tremendous challenges and broke barriers to reach their potential like Dr. Mary Verghese, our wheelchair doctor and founder of India’s first Rehab Institute, Dr. Prema Dhanraj who overcame trial by fire to become a leading plastic surgeon and women’s rights champion.
- Alumnae who carry the spirit and values of CMC to their work and lives across country and the globe.
- Women who inspire our students through their expert teaching and research, dedicated practice and compassionate care at the bedside of our patients, in the Operation Theatres and labour rooms, in outreach to the communities around us
- Women therapists and technicians who care for hundreds of patients from around the country and brighten their day with a kind word or smile
- Women Housekeeping, support and security staff who are on their feet all day long and whose hard work and diligence keep our services going
- The grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and cousins who come into CMC’s 7 campuses seeking healthcare and healing
