CMC’s College of Nursing Community Health (CONCH) provides health care to urban and rural communities in Vellore and Ranipet Districts. Our Community Health Nurses share Neeta’s story:
“Neeta* is one of our high-risk mothers in Kannigapuram village. She had multiple pregnancies but tragically, none of her babies survived. We know how happy, and also how scared, she was to be pregnant again. She was delighted to be having twins! Our village health worker noticed Neeta was severely anaemic. We organised her regular monitoring in CMC’s Main Hospital.
During our next visit to her village, we found Neeta’s blood pressure (BP) was high with high levels of protein in her urine (signs of possible pre-eclampsia). As her delivery date approached, we monitored her BP daily. She called us when she began to have mild contractions. The babies’ heartrate and movements were normal, but due to her various risk factors, we immediately brought her to CMC’s Labour room. The doctors took her for an emergency cesarean section. Thankfully both baby boys were born alive and healthy. Knowing her economic and heartbreaking struggles, CMC subsidized the costs of her treatment. It was a great blessing for us to know we helped Neeta in her time of need.”
